Beef Stew

Cover with water in large stock pot, bring to boil, then boil 15 minutes, reduce heat to med-low to simmer:

  • 3-4 lbs red potatoes, cubed
  • 7 carrots, chopped
  • 5 tsp beef bullion
  • 1/4 cup santa maria seasoning (mixture of garlic salt, pepper and parsley)
  • 3 sprigs of thyme, leaves only

In large saute pan, in two batches, over med-high heat with drizzle of olive oil, saute:

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 head garlic (6-8 cloves)

Then in same saute pan, brown with olive oil, and sprinkles of santa maria seasoning:

  • 2 1/2 lbs stewing beef.

Add cooked meat, onions and garlic to stock pot.

In a separate bowl whisk to make a paste:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 10 TB flour

Add to stock pot, bring to boil, boil 4 minutes.

Add to taste:

  • 1 TB salt
  • 2 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

Serve with crusty homemade bread.

My daughter and I played around to make up this recipe for a goal for personal progress – a youth program through our church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  It was fun, and such a great experience for her.  Her goal is to plan, shop and help prepare all the family dinners for two weeks!  I love her choices.  Some new things, some regular things, and some quick things for busy days.  Very wise.
