Donuts or Maple Bars

Imagemaple bars

Dissolve 2 tablespoons yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. Scald 1 1/2 cups of milk.

Add:

  • 1/2 cups shortening
  • 1/2 cups sugar 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Mix together well. Add three more cups of flour. Knead until smooth; let rise until size has doubled. Roll out and cut. Rise 1/2 hour Fry in Vegetable oil until golden brown. Let cool and frost

Donut Glaze:

Powdered sugar, water and 1 teaspoon vanilla or to taste.

Maple Bar Frosting:

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  •  Maple flavoring to taste

Boil for 3 minutes; cool; thicken with powdered sugar. If it gets stiff, add a little milk.
